PUBLIC STATEMENT REGARDING ADMINISTRATIVE ADJUSTMENT OF TRANS PEOPLE’S NAME CHANGE

On the 25-th of July 2017 “Right Side” human rights defender NGO sent a letter to the director of the civil registry of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Ani Mhkitaryan. The purpose of the letter № 08/17 was to clarify, does the principle of representing 3 witnesses for the name change is still in use, or not? In response to the request on 03/08/2017 we received a letter, where it is mentioned that “The circumstance of the persons factual name change process, in the past was done with the presence of three witnesses. Regarding the implemented reforms in the civil service sphere and the simplification of the administrative adjustment policy, civil registry of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, made an executive order from 22-nd of May this year, it has been ordered that –  as a conformation document of the applicant’s request, the application letter is enough.”
From this letter, it follows that, there have been changes in the name change process, the principle of three witnesses no longer is in place, the citizens application letter is enough for the process.
