“Right Side” human rights defender NGO condemns violence against LGBT activists in Georgia

“Right Side” human rights defender NGO strongly condemns violence and unlawful acts of Georgian police against LGBT activists Levan Berianidze and Tornike Kusiani. This is an explicit act of LGBT-phobia in a democratic country, which is completely unacceptable. We hope that, events like this will not repeat, and offenders will be punished fairly under the law.

On August 25th, Levan Berianidzé, Executive Director of Equality Movement, and Tornike Kusiani, board member of Equality Movement, were detained and were beaten by the police in Batumi, Georgia (http://www.tabula.ge/en/story/123443-lgbt-activists-in-batumi-reportedly-abused-by-police)
