Our 4th Anniversary

On January 25, the 4th anniversary of the “Right Side ” human rights NGO’s activvity was held.
For the past four years, “Right Side” human rights defender NGO has set a goal to ensure well-being, protection and equality of trans community and sex workers in Armenia by achieving social-cultural and legal changes through cooperation with state bodies, civil society and with international organisations.
Representatives of the European Endowment for democracy, Program Officer Alexandra Kirby and Grants Assistant Evgenia Stupac, also attended to event along side with representatives of the transgender community.
The founder president of the organization, Lilit Martirosyan, in her opening speech said, “Unfortunately, transgender people are still facing struggle in their everyday life due to their gender identity and self-expression. We face discrimination, stigma and violence in all aspects of life. I believe that violence, stigma and discrimination can not have place in a country that has chosen the path of revolution and democracy. Together we can improve democracy and spread equality in the Republic of Armenia ”
Guests also shared their best wishes and warm words, saying that the “Right Side” human rights defender NGO plays a very important role in transgender people’s lives in Armenia. For the past four years, thanks to the organization’s activities, the lives of transgender people have improved. Thanks to the hard work of the organization, we can easily make a name change now.With the help of sewing and make-up classes many transgender people have gained skills and can find jobs. All of us have to defend our rights and help the organization to make even more transgender people lives secure ”
“Right Side” human rights defedner NGO, as the first and only transgender community based organization in Armenia and the South Caucasus, highlight the importance of legal protection and security of transgender people and will continue to improve the quality of provided services and increase their number as well to support transgender people that are facing problems in country.
