On June 22 of 2019, around 22:00-22:30, Lilit Martirosyan, founder and president of the “Right Side” human rights defender NGO, ordered a car with a Yandex Taxi mobile application. Sahakyan Hovhannes, the driver of the Opel Astra car (35XU780). the journey was planned from Arshakunyats street to the Republic Square. The driver recognized Lilit and started bullying her and asked her who needs to serve in the army instead for her. Then the driver increased the speed of the car, while Lilit was screaming. Lilit Martirosyan reported the incident on the same day, and submitted a complaint to “Yandex Taxi” service.
“Right Side” human rights defender NGO calls to Yandex Taxi to introduce internal policies to ensure non discrimination and safe journey of consumers. It is evident that after Lilit Martirosyan’s speech at the National Assembly, a number of transgender individuals have repeatedly been subjected with discriminatory attitude because of their gender identity. “Right Side” human rights defender NGO calls on the RA Police to undertake a transparent and legitimate investigation.
