Name change of a trans person in the Republic of Georgia.

“Right Side” human rights defender NGO with the help of Olya Azatyan, who is Armenia Project Coordinator at South Caucasus Regional Office of the Heinrich Boell Foundation since September 2016 and Heinrich Boell Foundation European Union’s project coordinator Anna Nemsitsveridze-Daniels who guided us to Women’s Initiatives Supporting Group (WISG), organization’s lawyer Keti Bakhtadze and with the help of our five months cooperation, we made possible the name change of a trans person in the Republic of Georgia.
The trans woman who is citizen of the Republic of Georgia, three years ago, moved to Yerevan to continue her education, but in that period she went through several plastic surgeries and hormonal hormone replacement therapy and her face and body has been changed, therefore she could not cross the border Georgia, to make name change.
“Right Side” human rights defender NGO is the first trans organization in Armenia and Caucasus, which deals with the issues of trans people, accepted Camilla’s application to assisted her in that process.
Ketevani Bakhtadze came to the Republic of Armenia and met with the staff of “Right Side” human rights defender NGO, with Camilla and collected necessary documents, which are necessary to get a new passport. Keti applied top Public Service Hall Tbilisi in January 2018, to start the process of the name change of the transgender woman and on February 13th her application was approved.
