SOCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FOR LGBTIQ PEOPLE DISPLACED FROM ARTSAKH AND FOR LGBTIQ PEOPLE SEEKING ASYLUM IN RA

Right Side Human Rights Defender NGO is launching a new program within the framework of the “Prepare, Respond and Care” program of the Equality Fund, to support LGBTIQ refugees displaced from Artsakh or relocated to Armenia from other countries, who are seeking asylum in RA, and for LGBTIQ people who live in extremely difficult social conditions.

About four months ago, on September 19, 2023, as a result of Azerbaijan’s attack on Nagorno Karabakh, the Armenian population of Artsakh was displaced from its permanent place of residence and found refuge in the territory of the Republic of Armenia. According to the statistical data published by the RA government, the total number of people displaced from Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia in 2023 is 100,625, who were resettled in the capital city of Yerevan and the regions of the Republic of Armenia. As a result of all this, as well as the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, and other regional conflicts, a deep social crisis has arisen that resettled people, including many Trans LGBIQ people, for whom, in addition to social and financial among the difficulties, there is also the burden of stigma and discrimination, which makes them doubly vulnerable and the process of reintegration even more difficult. Recognizing these problems, Right Side Human Rights Defender NGO launched this program, but the beneficiaries of the program can be not only displaced people from Nagorno Karabakh but also asylum seekers who moved to RA from other countries, as well as LGBTIQ people who are in an extremely difficult social situation.

To provide proper assistance, Right Side Human Rights Defender NGO will carry out a comprehensive assessment of the needs of resettled persons, and as a result of its analysis, different packages of social assistance will be created, depending on the problems mentioned by the applicants.

Who can apply?

LGBTIQ persons who have been displaced from Nagorno Karabakh, as well as those who have moved to Armenia from other countries and are seeking asylum in the Republic of Armenia, who are in an extremely difficult social situation and currently reside in the Republic of Armenia, can apply for social assistance. The Right Side Human Rights Defender NGO will form a special committee responsible for thoroughly examining each application and assessing needs. After examination of the applications by the commission members, the persons applying for assistance will receive an answer within ten days. To apply, please fill out the following form.

Through such programs, we aim to create an environment of solidarity and an equal and inclusive society where the rights and dignity of each individual will be protected and respected.
