CONTEXT:

The “Strengthening Trans Organizing Resiliency & Capacity to Advocate for Legal Gender Recognition in the Conflict Affected Larger South Caucasus Region” project (hereinafter “Project”) aims to empower the trans and LGBQI community. By mobilizing these communities and strengthening their resilience during crises, the project seeks to amplify their voices in advocating for legal gender recognition (LGR) without forced sterilization. Through collaborative efforts, the project strives to foster positive changes in LGR legislation across the region.

The project comprises several key components, including capacity-building, advocacy initiatives, research dissemination, and legislative drafting.

Overall, the project aims to empower trans and LGBQI communities, elevate their voices in advocating for their rights, and contribute to positive legislative changes regarding LGR in the South Caucasus region.

DESCRIPTION OF THE ASSIGNMENT: 

The objective of this initiative is to empower 25 transgender community members from  the Conflict Affected Larger South Caucasus Region in crisis preparedness, thereby enhancing their resilience to crises and enabling them to continue advocating for transgender rights and legal gender recognition (LGR) in their respective contexts. 

The expert will travel to Tbilisi, Georgia to conduct a three-day training program for 25 transgender community leaders from  the Conflict Affected Larger South Caucasus Region. Focused on crisis preparedness empowering participants with essential knowledge, skills, and strategies to effectively respond to crises within their communities. Through interactive sessions and peer learning, the training will equip participants with practical tools for risk assessment, resilience-building, and advocacy, fostering greater solidarity and empowerment among transgender communities in the South Caucasus region.

Indicators:

  1. Understanding and Implementation: Percentage of participants who have comprehended the training content and are prepared to implement the acquired knowledge to advance transgender rights within their organizations.
  2. Impact on Trans Activism: Assessment of the extent to which trans activists in the broader South Caucasus region have enhanced the transgender movements in their respective contexts.

DELIVERABLES:

  • Comprehensive Training Materials:
      • Detailed curriculum outlining the training agenda, objectives, and session plans for each day.
      • PowerPoint presentations, handouts, and visual materials for facilitating interactive sessions.
      • Case studies, exercises, and role-play scenarios designed to enhance learning and engagement.
  • Participant Resources:
      • Training materials or guides summarizing key concepts, strategies, and resources discussed during the training.
      • Resource directories listing relevant organizations, support services, and crisis response mechanisms available to transgender individuals.
  • Pre-Training Assessment:
      • Pre-training surveys to assess participants’ knowledge, skills, and needs related to crisis preparedness.
      • Summary of findings highlighting areas of strength and areas for improvement to inform training design and customization.
  • Post-Training Evaluation:
      • Evaluation report summarizing participants’ feedback, insights, and learning outcomes from the training.
      • Assessment of the effectiveness of the training in meeting its objectives and enhancing participants’ knowledge and skills in crisis preparedness.
  • Advocacy Action Plans:
      • Action plans developed by participants outlining specific advocacy strategies and initiatives to promote transgender rights and address trans-specific needs in crisis situations.
      • Recommendations for collaboration, resource mobilization, and engagement with stakeholders to support advocacy efforts.
  • Training Documentation:
    • Documentation of training proceedings, including photos, videos, and participant testimonials capturing key moments and insights shared during the training.
    • Comprehensive training report summarizing key discussions, outcomes, and recommendations for future interventions.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    • Expertise in Crisis Preparedness: The trainer should possess in-depth knowledge and experience in crisis management, including risk assessment, mitigation strategies, and response planning in diverse contexts.
    • Understanding of Transgender Issues: Strong understanding of the unique challenges faced by transgender individuals, including discrimination, access to healthcare, and safety concerns, particularly in crisis situations.
    • Facilitation Skills: Demonstrated ability to facilitate engaging and interactive training sessions, employing participatory methodologies to promote active learning and knowledge transfer.
    • Advocacy Experience: Experience in advocating for the rights and needs of marginalized communities, with a focus on promoting transgender rights and addressing trans-specific vulnerabilities in crisis contexts.
    • Cross-Cultural Competence: Sensitivity to cultural nuances and diverse perspectives, with experience working in multicultural settings and engaging with diverse communities.
    • Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in the South Caucasus region would be advantageous.
    • Training and Capacity Building: Experience in designing and delivering training programs, capacity-building initiatives, or workshops for community leaders, activists, or humanitarian responders.
    • Education Background: A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field such as social sciences, humanitarian studies, gender studies, or related disciplines is preferred.
    • Commitment to Inclusion: Demonstrated commitment to promoting inclusivity, diversity, and social justice, with a focus on empowering marginalized communities, including transgender individuals.
    • Professional Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in crisis management, advocacy, community organizing, or related fields, preferably with a focus on transgender rights and resilience-building initiatives. A minimum of 3 years of professional capacity in conducting trainings or capacity-building activities within transgender communities or humanitarian contexts.
