On April 12 of this year, with the financial support of the Red Umbrella Foundation, the Right Side Human Rights Defender NGO organized a rehabilitation retreat for representatives of the sex worker community living in Yerevan and different regions of the Republic of Armenia.

During the retreat, group meetings and discussions were held, led by Lilit Martirosyan, the founder, and president of the Right Side NGO. Many sex workers in Armenia face challenges such as stigma, discrimination, violence, and exploitation, often experiencing high levels of stress and anxiety. In addition, among the beneficiaries of the organization are many sex workers who have intersecting identities and are also members of the transgender community, so they face stigma and discrimination even more often. Community support is one of the necessary components of improving and restoring the quality of lives of sex workers, and such meetings provide an opportunity to share exciting issues, communicate with each other, and create mechanisms of mutual assistance.

It was discussed how to self-rehabilitate, regulate relations with the society and family members, form mutual aid groups, and implement activities aimed at strengthening the community.

Providing sex workers with the support they need to maintain their physical and mental health is a priority for the Right Side Human Rights Defender NGO. At the end of the meeting, the participants mentioned that together they will continue to create a safe and harmonious environment for all representatives of the community.
