PROJECT TITLE: Strengthening Trans Organizing Resiliency & Capacity to Advocate for Legal Gender Recognition in the Conflict Affected Larger South Caucasus Region

CONTEXT: The “Strengthening Trans Organizing Resiliency & Capacity to Advocate for Legal Gender Recognition in the Conflict Affected Larger South Caucasus Region” project implemented by Right Side HRD NGO with the support of UK International Development from the UK government aims to empower trans and LGBQI communities in the region. By mobilizing these communities and strengthening their resilience during crises, the project seeks to amplify their voices in advocating for legal gender recognition (LGR) without forced sterilization. Through collaborative efforts, the project strives to foster positive changes in LGR legislation across the region. The project comprises several key components, including capacity-building, advocacy initiatives, research on LGR situation, and legislative drafting. The overarching goal is to increase the number of better-informed actors who can influence change in policies and practices affecting transgender individuals in the South Caucasus region.

DESCRIPTION OF THE ASSIGNMENT: The objective of this initiative is to enhance the advocacy skills and knowledge of trans and LGBQI community members from the region, and facilitate the development of a Joint Advocacy Action Plan for a duration of 6 months aimed at LGR. The expert will conduct the 4-day long training in Istanbul, Turkey in August 2024. The training will focus on advocacy strategies, techniques, and best practices relevant to advancing transgender rights and legal gender recognition in their respective contexts. The expert will facilitate interactive sessions, group discussions, and practical exercises to empower participants with the necessary skills and knowledge. During the training, the expert will facilitate the development of a Joint Advocacy Action Plan in collaboration with the participants. The plan will outline specific advocacy strategies, initiatives, roles, and responsibilities for the next six months, aimed at influencing policy changes and promoting transgender rights in the region.

Indicators for success:

  1. Understanding and Implementation: Percentage of participants who have comprehended the training content and are prepared to implement the acquired knowledge to advance transgender rights within their organizations.
  2. Joint Advocacy Plan: Development of a comprehensive Joint Advocacy Action Plan with all participants aware of their roles and responsibilities in carrying it out with the support of Right Side HRD NGO.


  1. Comprehensive Training Materials:
    • Detailed curriculum outlining the training agenda, objectives, and session plans for each day.
    • PowerPoint presentations, handouts, and visual materials for facilitating interactive sessions.
    • Case studies, exercises, and role-play scenarios designed to enhance learning and engagement.
  2. Participant Resources:
    • Training materials or guides summarizing key advocacy concepts, strategies, and resources discussed during the training.
  3. Post-Training Evaluation:
    • Evaluation report summarizing participants’ feedback, insights, and learning outcomes from the training.
    • Assessment of the effectiveness of the training in meeting its objectives and enhancing participants’ advocacy skills.
  4. Joint Advocacy Action Plan:
    • Development of a detailed Joint Advocacy Action Plan in collaboration with the participants, outlining specific advocacy strategies, initiatives, roles, and responsibilities for the next six months.
  5. Advocacy Capacity Building:
    • Follow-up support and mentoring to assist participants in implementing the Joint Advocacy Action Plan effectively.


  • Expertise in Advocacy: The expert should possess in-depth knowledge and experience in advocacy strategies, techniques, and best practices, particularly in the context of promoting transgender rights and legal gender recognition.
  • Facilitation Skills: Demonstrated ability to facilitate engaging and interactive training sessions, employing participatory methodologies to promote active learning and knowledge transfer.
  • Cross-Cultural Competence: Sensitivity to cultural nuances and diverse perspectives, with experience working in multicultural settings and engaging with diverse communities.
  • Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in the larger South Caucasus region (such as Armenian, Georgian, Azerbaijani, Ukrainian, or Turkish) would be advantageous.
  • Education Background: A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field such as social sciences, humanitarian studies, gender studies, or related disciplines is preferred.
  • Commitment to Inclusion: Demonstrated commitment to promoting inclusivity, diversity, and social justice, with a focus on empowering marginalized communities, including transgender individuals.
  • Professional Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in advocacy, community organizing, or related fields, preferably with a focus on transgender rights and resilience-building initiatives. A minimum of 3 years of professional capacity in conducting trainings or capacity-building activities within transgender communities or humanitarian contexts.
