From April 15 to 17 of this year, Right Side Human Rights Defender NGO conducted a three-day seminar “Leading the charge against corruption” with the financial support of the Global Fund for Women which was the final part of the anti-corruption training held throughout last year.

The seminar was conducted by Lilit Matirosyan, the founder and president of Right Side Human Rights Defender NGO, anti-corruption expert, and a member of the anti-corruption advisory group of the Global Fund for Women. Through active discussions, the participants tried to find out whether the situation in Armenia now has positive or negative dynamics, the main vulnerable points, and what legislative reforms can be proposed to eliminate them. They talked about how to detect corruption, as well as the negative impact of corruption on society and the importance of transparency and accountability. Various tools and methods of preventing and fighting corruption were presented to the participants, considering as an example the anti-corruption strategy of Right Side Human Rights Defender NGO.

The seminar participants highlighted the particular corruption risks that Trans LGBIQ and sex workers in Armenia face due to high levels of discrimination and lack of access to necessary services. As a result of the discussions, the spheres where LGBTIQ people face a high level of corruption were selected by participants: educational and medical institutions, the police, and courts, then they were divided into groups and created a scenario of possible corruption risks for each sphere and outlined the ways to overcome corruption through a role-play exercise.

Right Side Human Rights Defender NGO will continue to work in the direction of rooting out corruption, protecting the representatives of the Trans LGBIQ and sex worker communities in the Republic of Armenia from corruption, educating them about the types of corruption and the methods of fighting them, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability.
