Right Side NGO, as a community-based organization led by and for Trans people and sex workers, recognizes the challenges community members face due to the stigma and discrimination prevalent in Armenia. Many Trans and LGBIQ individuals and sex workers are rejected by their families, forced to drop out of educational institutions due to bullying and violence, and later encounter severe social hardships due to limited access to employment and sustainable livelihoods.
In response, one of the organization’s strategic priorities is to provide need-based support, with social assistance being a key component. Right Side NGO initiated its social assistance program during the COVID-19 pandemic, when many Trans and LGBIQ individuals and sex workers were excluded from state support mechanisms. In recent years, the scope of this assistance has expanded to include people forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as immigrants and asylum seekers affected by the Russian-Ukrainian war and the adoption of anti-Trans and anti-LGBIQ laws in Russia and Georgia.
Right Side NGO offers the following types of social assistance:
- Financial support for rent, utility payments, and hormonal medications
- Packages of essential food and hygiene supplies
Social assistance is provided in phases, depending on the availability of relevant programs, and announcements are made through the organization’s social media platforms.
