Meeting with the Sex Workers Community: Rights, Safety, and Protection

“Right Side” Human Rights Defender NGO, continuing its work in the protection of human rights and community support, organized a meeting with representatives of the sex worker community to discuss their daily challenges, rights, and possible solutions.
During the meeting, several key topics were addressed:
Human Rights and Protection - Participants learned about their rights and the tools they can use to protect their interests. The discussion included which institutions to contact in cases of discrimination, harassment, or violence. Local and international mechanisms ensuring the legal protection of sex workers were also presented.
Self-Care and Safety - Special attention was given to psychological and physical self-care skills. Participants discussed effective methods for acting both in everyday life and in risky situations. The importance of digital security was also emphasized to ensure the protection of personal data and online safety.
Stereotypes, Stigma, and Discrimination - Sex workers in Armenia often face stigma and stereotypes that undermine their dignity and create an environment of violence and insecurity. During the meeting, participants shared personal experiences and talked about the challenges they face due to discriminatory attitudes.
Health and Access to Services - The limited accessibility of healthcare services was discussed, which often prevents sex workers from receiving necessary medical assistance. Participants also spoke about the difficulties related to access to prevention programs, psychological support, and social services.
The meeting was attended by 16 sex workers from Yerevan and various regions of Armenia. Their active participation contributed to experience sharing and the creation of an atmosphere of solidarity—raising issues together and suggesting solutions.
Such discussions are an important step toward overcoming stigma, breaking stereotypes, and ensuring the health, safety, and rights of sex workers.
“Right Side” NGO believes that every person deserves to live a dignified and protected life, regardless of occupation or social status.
