Public announcement

March 31st is International Trans Day of Visibility. This day provides a platform for the trans community and their supporters to raise awareness, discuss issues and educate the public, as well as to address stereotypes about trans people.

The International Day of Visibility serves as a beacon of hope, highlighting the success stories of transgender people who are often ignored and marginalized by society and the media. For seven years, the human rights NGO For the Right has been at the forefront of campaigns aimed at increasing the visibility of transgender people, as well as recording cases of hate crimes and discrimination, presenting these issues on national and international platforms.

Unfortunately, trans people in Armenia still continue to face discrimination, oppression and violence in various areas of their lives, as evidenced by recent cases of physical violence and hate speech. The lack of acceptance by society and the inaction of the state system, particularly the police, often leave transgender people defenseless, homeless and in some cases in some cases even forcing them to flee the country.

While a number of European countries have implemented reforms aimed at ensuring legal equality for transgender people, Armenia has not yet taken steps in this regard. In light of these challenges, increasing the visibility of the transgender community remains urgent; when society begins to understand and accept trans people, the necessary tools for their protection and support will also become more effective. It is important to note that trans people have always existed in our society, and as such, it is our duty to show solidarity and respect for trans LGBTQ people.

The Right to Justice Human Rights NGO recalls that supporting trans people is an integral part of strengthening democracy and establishing legal equality in the Republic of Armenia. Let's change the world together so that every individual receives dignified and respectful treatment, regardless of gender identity.

Highlighting the importance of International Transgender Day, on March 31 of this year, the Right to Justice NGO organized a conference that included a presentation of the organization's last year's legal report and a panel discussion with the participation of trans people and experts in the field.

We will publish more details about the event soon.
