Driver's derogatory attitude towards transgender woman

On June 22, 2019, between 10:00 PM and 10:30 PM, Lilit Martirosyan, the founding president of the “Iravunki Pashay” human rights NGO, orders a car through the “Yandex Taxi” mobile application.

Lilit Martirosyan is approached by the driver Sahakyan Hovhannes in an Opel Astra with license plate number 35XU780. They head from Arshakunyats Street to Republic Square.

During the march, the driver recognizes Lilit and mockingly asks who should serve in the RA Armed Forces instead of him, then increases the speed of the car and begins to curse Lilit. After Lilit’s screams and demands, Lilit is forced to get out of the car before the march ends.

After stopping the car, Lilit calls the “Yandex Taxi” service to file her complaint. We would also like to inform you that Lilit Martirosyan filed a police report on the same day.

The “Rights Side” human rights NGO calls on the “Yandex Taxi” service to introduce internal policies to eliminate stigma and discrimination and ensure the safe movement of consumers.

The fact is that after Lilit Martirosyan’s speech in the National Assembly, a number of trans people have repeatedly been subjected to discriminatory treatment for their gender identity. The “Rights Side” NGO calls on the RA Police to undertake a transparent and regular process of the submitted reports.
