Women, Peace and Security Academy Reception for LGBTQ Leaders

"Rights Side" is launching the "Inclusion of Gender and Sexual Minorities in the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda" project, with the financial support of the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR), which aims to contribute to civil society efforts to increase the participation of underrepresented communities in Armenia in the promotion and implementation of the WPS agenda.

Within the framework of the project, we are announcing the "Women, Peace and Security" Academy Admission for LGBTIQ leaders. During the 7-day academy, 18 selected TRANS LGBTIQ participants will have the opportunity to:

Acquire new knowledge about the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda, UN Security Council resolutions related to the WPS agenda (1325, 2250, 2122…), as well as other international resolutions related to women and human rights,

Acquire a better understanding of conflict transformation, peacebuilding pathways, as well as tools that will contribute to the inclusion of LGBTIQ people in efforts to create a peaceful society and advocate for the inclusion of gender and sexual minorities in peacebuilding processes,

Use the new knowledge and advocacy tools acquired to present issues and challenges related to the LGBTIQ community to representatives of the state and international community, as well as advocate for the inclusion of gender and sexual minorities in the WPS agenda.
Through informal education, group discussions, and practical exercises, the program aims to encourage the personal growth and civic engagement of 18 young TRANS LGBTIQ individuals in Armenia.

The program is open to TRANS LGBTIQ individuals who reside in Yerevan and all regions of Armenia, are willing to implement peer-to-peer education, and engage in the NGO’s advocacy efforts to increase the participation of the LGBTIQ community in the CCA agenda in Armenia.

Application deadline: November 5, 2019

Location: Only selected participants will be notified

Dates: November 7-13, 2019

Meeting frequency: 8 hours per day

The Academy’s competition for participation consists of 2 stages. Based on the application, the participants who successfully passed the first stage will be invited to an online interview, and then they will be notified of the selection results.

A CERTIFICATE WILL BE GIVEN AT THE END OF PARTICIPATION.

All expenses related to travel, accommodation and food are covered by the “Iravunki Pasha” human rights NGO.
