Hate-Motivated Group Assault Against an LGBTIQ Individual

On April 28, 2025, around 1:00 PM, a violent assault took place in the courtyard of a building on Pushkin Street in Yerevan, targeting a member of the LGBTIQ community.

The victim had been lured to the location by an unknown individual under the pretext of meeting up. Upon arrival, one man approached the victim, followed shortly by two other unknown individuals, forming a group of three. They physically attacked the community member, using their fists and brass knuckles to inflict serious injuries to the head and various parts of the body, causing significant physical harm and psychological trauma.

The "Right Side" Human Rights Defender NGO received an urgent call from the victim the same day. The individual promptly filed a report with law enforcement authorities. A criminal case has been initiated by the Investigative Committee of the Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts under Article 195, Part 2, Point 5 of the Criminal Code of Armenia — "physical violence committed by a group of persons."

Our organization's legal team is actively involved in the case and is providing the victim with the necessary legal support.

We strongly condemn all forms of violence and hatred against LGBTIQ individuals. The safety and dignity of community members must be a top priority at all levels of society and governance.
