Public statement | international women's day 2025

Today, March 8, as the world celebrates International Women's Day, we also want to speak about the rights of trans women. This day symbolizes the struggle for equality, resistance, and victory, but at the same time, we are witnessing the dangerous growth of anti-gender and anti-trans movements in many countries.
As the fight for women's rights and gender justice continues, trans women face double discrimination: they are not only the target of discrimination, violence, and hatred, but also the victim of anti-gender legislation implemented at the governmental level and organized hate campaigns.
Today, in 2025, we see how anti-gender movements around the world are targeting trans and LGBIQ communities, trying to destroy the rights gained through decades of struggle.
In the US, Europe, the Middle East and Latin America, legislative restrictions against the rights of trans people have doubled, and discriminatory and false narratives have become more widespread.
Trans people in Armenia and the Caucasus region are subjected to violence and hate speech, while impunity of the state endangers their lives.
In neighbouring Russia, Georgia, and other countries, laws are being passed that prohibit and criminalize the existence of trans people, and people are being subjected to persecution and repression.
We cannot remain silent.
March 8 is not just a holiday - it is a reminder that all women, including trans women, deserve respect, safety, and equality.
Right Side Human Rights Defender NGO calls on international organizations, governments, donors and the public to:
- Protect the rights of trans people with legal, financial, and political support.
- Reject and condemn all anti-gender movements that contribute to the growth of hatred and human rights violations.
- Recognize and voice the struggles of trans people within the global women's rights movement.
March 8 is also Trans Women's Day. We will not give up our rights, we will not remain silent. We will continue to fight for the equality of all women, regardless of their gender identity.
Join our fight. Let's walk together for justice.
