UN Special Rapporteur Mary Lawlor Raises Concerns Over Targeting of Lilit Martirosyan
UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, Mary Lawlor, has raised concerns regarding the targeting, disinformation, and threats directed at Lilit Martirosyan and Right Side NGO.
In her statement, she highlights the ongoing risks faced by Lilit Martirosyan as a human rights defender and calls for her protection.
Lilit Martirosyan, as well as Right Side NGO, continue to be targeted by false narratives, coordinated attacks, defamation, hate speech, and ongoing threats as a direct result of their human rights work. These actions are persistent and form part of a broader pattern of intimidation against LGBTIQ human rights defenders in Armenia.
This is not an isolated case. For years, LGBTIQ activists in Armenia have been systematically targeted through coordinated campaigns of hate speech, disinformation, and intimidation.
The ongoing attacks against Lilit Martirosyan are part of this broader pattern.
Despite these challenges, Right Side NGO reaffirms its commitment to continue its work in defending the rights and dignity of LGBTIQ people.
We call on the relevant authorities of the Republic of Armenia to ensure the safety of LGBTIQ activists and organizations and to conduct effective and impartial investigations into all reported cases.
